Melodifestivalen: Heat 4

The last of Melodifestivalen's four heats was broadcast from Örebro on Saturday. We have seen all the contestants at this point, and the line-up for the Andra Chansen (second chance) round is set.

More importantly, there was a sighting of my favorite Swedish back-up dancer, Daniel Koivunen, formerly known as "Anton Ewald's Left Back-Up Dancer." After lots of research (internet stalking), I finally figured out his name, and I have requested to be his friend on Facebook. Fingers crossed he doesn't think it's weird that an American girl with zero connections to Sweden is trying to be his friend!

Anyway, Daniel Koivunen performed this week in two numbers! First, the opening, which featured host, Sanna Nielsen, singing "Free Your Mind" by En Vogue, for a reason I do not understand because I do not speak Swedish. And secondly, in Dinah Nah's entry, "Make Me (La La La)." But back to the competition.

The line-up this week:
1. "Don't Say No," Midnight Boy
2. "Black Swan," Caroline Wennergren
3. "Building It Up," JTR
4. "Guld och gröna skogar," Hasse Andersson
5. "Make Me (La La La)," Dinah Nah
6. "Ett andetag," Annika Herlitz
7. "Heroes," Måns Zelmerlöw

The Great: Måns Zelmerlöw

Three-time Melodifestivalen participant, Måns Zelmerlöw, finished out the competition with "Heroes." Måns is a favorite in Sweden, and his performance this year is flawless. "Heroes" somehow combines old-timey western, disco, and pop music, and it works. The animation and staging is great, and we have another Eurovision contender with this entry.

Also, guys! Can we talk about how he is probably the prettiest man I've ever seen? If only looks mattered in a singing competition. (Just kidding, just kidding. They matter. They matter a lot.)

No surprises here, Måns was voted direct to the final. The producers of Melodifestivalen this year have been very transparent with who their favorites are: each week, the last entry of the night has a much higher level of production devoted to it, with set changes and/or animation sequences. And each week, the last entry is the clear frontrunner, and it is voted direct to the final. I'm not complaining, because these songs are great, but is this level of favoritism unfair to the other entries? Also, do we care? Watch Måns perform here.

The Good: JTR and Dinah Nah

JTR is made up of brothers, John Andreasson, Tom Lundbäck, and Robin Lundbäck. They were born in Sweden and grew up in Australia, and they were featured on the fifth season of The X Factor Australia. "Building It Up" has a cute little boy-band sound to it, and they will definitely have fans in Australia (who are participating in Eurovision for the first time this year). The Swedish version of Hanson received enough votes to qualify for the final. Watch their performance here.

Newcomer Dinah Nah was the surprise of the night. "Make Me (La La La)" is a party anthem, full of energy. And there's my favorite back-up dancer, pulling focus like a STAR! Get out your glowsticks, Dinah's going to Andra Chansen next week.

The Robbed: Midnight Boy

This beautiful little prince is Midnight Boy, the stage name of Johan Krafman. Let's all journey back to the 80s with this incredible synth pop hit, "Don't Say No." The mannequins, the back-up dancers serving Gia Gunn realness, this is perfection. Yet, it received the lowest votes in the competition. ROBBED. Last place?? How could you? Is it because this is a gay fever dream? Is that why? Probably. But I think this performance will make Midnight Boy a star in Sweden. #2gay4eurovision

Next week is Andra Chansen, where eight songs will be given a second chance to compete for the chance to represent Sweden at Eurovision. Entries will be arranged into four duels, the winners continuing on to the final.

1. "Bring Out The Fire," Andreas Weise VS. "Forever Starts Today," Linus Svenning
Prediction: While I'd much rather see Tiny Woody Harrelson take this, Linus is a favorite in Sweden.

2. "Guld och gröna skogar," Hasse Andersson VS. "I See You," Kristin Amparo
Prediction: Though The Olds™ love to vote for their own kind, Kristin Amparo has this in the bag.

3. "Hello Hi," Dolly Style VS. "Make Me (La La La)," Dinah Nah
Prediction: Don't make me choose! They'll tie and both go to the final.

4. "Det rår vi inte för," Behrang Miri VS. "Groupie," Samir & Viktor
Prediction: Yes, "Groupie" is ridiculous, but it's so much more fun. I think Samir & Viktor will advance.
